On March 15th, 2008, it was announced that the cost to build MGM MIRAGE CityCenter on the Las Vegas Strip had risen to $9.2 billion. This number reflects an approx. $2-billion increase from the original price tag. While the media continues to spread doom and gloom, this cost increase is yet another example of how expensive it is to build on the Las Vegas Strip - especially when you’re building what is aiming to become one of the world’s largest eco-friendly, LEED-certified developments.
Those who purchased luxury high-rise condominiums in properties such as Veer Towers, Vdara Condo Hotel, Mandarin Oriental, and The Harmon Residences must be happy. Imagine investing into what you thought was going to be a $7-billion project and then watching that project become an almost $10-billion project, before you even closed escrow.
